"You have reached the automated voice mailbox of--"
"Um. Kozukata Yuri."
"At the tone, please record your message. when you are finished recording, you may hang up, or press 1 for more options. To leave a call back number, press 9."
[This is what she gets for trying to doze and go to sleep early isn't it. She stares blearily at the text and briefly considers thumping her wall in retaliation for being woken up, but decides against it in the end.]
Do you not know how to cook? Are you hungry or something?
[As far as she knew his kitchen was pretty bare...]
[It's a day after, well, everything so far as Neji's concerned. The words from the briefing to all newcomers rang sharper in his head than did the call to arms of the senile old man in ViViD's ballroom. He'd been shuffled along and helped into and out of too many situations out of his immediate control in the past day to dare think he could do much more than laze the day by. Unyouthful of him? Absolutely. Neji simply couldn't give a damn.
So it's late evening when he finally remembers the CereVice. Reaches for it. Treats it like the suspicious thing it is for several minutes and feels not unlike an ape examining a new toy.
Everything was frustrating.
He tries to understand it the best he can, tries to recall how the basic functions work. Once he's at least certain he won't make an absolute fool of himself (not for his sake, really, but because of the matter at hand-- believe that as you will), he dials Kozukata Yuri. He talks into the thing like it's a radio- voice, of course, just as bland.]
This is Hyuga Neji. I was told I could contact you at any hours through these means. I'm don't mean I have anything urgent to discuss-
If you could let me know how you're faring, it'd be greatly appreciated. That's all.
[And of course he hangs up. Because that's what you do with a radio transmission.]
Edited (I forgot a LTTER and it was bothering me so much I had a hard time sleepinng orz) 2016-03-21 12:28 (UTC)
This was an unexpected call, to say the least. She'd been at work, actually, but since her work is pretty lax about everything an she kind of does her own thing anyway, who cares if she takes a sudden break to answer a phone call?? It means she's all dressed up for work though (sans the elaborate head piece). She's even wearing a bit of make-up-- it helps her look a little more, you know, lively. Like a normal person. Amazing.
Either way the bottom line is she probably looks quite a bit different from the bloody, tired mess she was in ViViD, though her emotions are as muted as ever. Still, she's curious that he reached out to her.]
Hyuga-san. It's alright, you were right. You can leave a message on here by voice, or a video. [As for how she's doing... She hesitates a moment, trying to figure out how to describe it.] I'm... drained, I suppose.
[But she shakes her head, the bells in her hair jingling together lightly as she does] But I'm doing better. I spoke with Lee and a couple of other people about... what happened. I got some good advice, so while I'm still a little uneasy, I'm... recovering. I'll be alright now.
[Her voice softens somewhat as she adds] Thank you. [You know, for checking up on her and all.] But what about you? Now that you're in the city proper, how are you doing?
Not that Yuri actually cares, she's more amused at the briskness of the question.]
Assuming we're talking about the same thing, it's currently in a heap in the corner. I don't really know what to do with it. I'm not convinced it won't just turn on on its own later.
[ It's the first time Souji's visited the hospital at Cerealia, and he's keen to make it the last. It's too big, too crowded, and crawling with robots. The non-murderous kind, which made them boring. He can't really explain why he's going out of his way to check up on people, so he shoves it under "curiosity" and "I have nothing better to do because there's nothing to murder". But now that he's done checking up on Lili, Souji heads off towards the exit, already intent on leaving. ]
[ His gaze casually flicks to the side as he strides across the room, then it stops straight on a figure he most definitely recognizes. ]
[ Now that he thinks about it, he can't say he's surprised to see Yuri either. He only dithers for the smallest moment, glancing at the exit and back at Yuri, before making his decision to approach. ]
Kozukata.
[ Souji calls out, then slows down as he looks Yuri up and down, trying to determine if she's been as badly wounded or if she's here to visit someone else who's been badly wounded, or if she's just the sort who likes to hang out at hospitals. ]
[It had taken a lot of convincing to get Lee to leave, and just as much to convince the hospital to let her go. She could have stayed until her sight was back, but that might take a day or two and she hadn't been looking forward to spending it cooped up in the hospital when she could've done the same thing at home.
The problem came with how to get home. She hadn't wuite figured that part out yet, which is why she was still hanging around.
Luckily, a night in shining armor appeared. For a given value of "knight in shining armor."
Yuri turns towards the familiar voice before she can think to stop herself. There are bandages around her head--around her eyes-- that are rather telling, and in the same instance she faces him her hand comes up to touch self-consciously at them.] Okita-san. [She defaults to being more polite than she might normally have been with him, but she can't see to gauge his emotions or if he's alone or not (and they ARE in public).
Her brow furrows slightly in concern.] What are you doing here? Are you alright? [...Asks the one clearly here for a reason.
As if considering that, she hurried to assure him before he can ask:] This is temporary.
[It's been an eventful morning. Neji and Tenten are missing and their cerevices cannot be reached, apparently because they are 'occupied'. Lee has been taking this to mean that they have a new job, but he still feels concerned because of a scream that he heard... and he also has no idea what kind of job it is or where.
But he knows that there's one person he can always count on. And someone who is good at locating that which is lost! So he tries to call Yuri...]
Yuri? Ah... good morning! Are you awake, currently? I apologize a hundred times over if I disturbed your sleep! I hope that you rested peacefully and that you day is kind to you! But... I have a favor to ask of you. I have need of your services! To find Neji and Tenten... please, if you would help me, I would appreciate it beyond words! ...W-well to be fair I already appreciate you beyond words...
[What if he even saying?! Lee doesn't even know, and he stammers to complete the call.]
A-ah, please contact me as soon as you receive this!
...Could all three of them have taken on some odd new occupation that forbids Cerevice usage? Or... is this something else?]
Y-yuri? [He attempts to sound calm, but worry is starting to bleed into his voice.] You may be busy right now. I apologize. You are 'occupied' in some way, apparently. As are Neji and Tenten.
...
...I do not truly understand what is happening. But I will do everything that I can to find you if I need it! Whatever happens... if you stay near Neji and Tenten, I know that they will look after you! And, I will be cheering you on!
[He pauses another moment. He's starting to get a bad feeling about this.]
Please... please, contact me as soon as you receive this message. And take care. I...
[ As with Rei, it takes Yu a few hours later than he'd like to get in touch with Yuri. His more immediate obligations with his roommates - and getting quite literally entangled with Merlin and Hyoubu - take him some time to wrap up. He does at least find out from Rise that his group was not the only group to wind up this way. They were not alone.
That is not comforting.
He does know one thing for sure: he wants to see her, too. He'd never met or even spoken to Yuri before they all got pulled into that dingy cell together, but he wants to know her now. She's brave, and quiet, and self-sacrificial to a worrying degree. She seems kind. He'd like to know her.
And there is the matter of the key. But that can wait. That really needs to wait at least a little bit. They all, all of them, died. He's still reeling from it a little himself. He doesn't know how to forgive himself yet for failing his friends that badly.
In the meantime, this is all he can do. Try to say hello, and try to get to know her. And maybe try to bring her something nice. ]
[Yuri hesitate for a long moment on answering. What is she supposed to say? Apologize for messing up and dying? Ignore it and maybe he just won't ever contact her again??
She fiddles with the device and sighs. She can't really run away from this and bury her head in the sand, much as she wants to-- besides, she wants to find out what happened.]
[ It's taken him longer to find and message Yuri than it had with Rei, simply because Rei was one of his closest friends and he hadn't wanted to let that linger too long. It means that it's late on the 18th when he does finally get around to it though.
A few of the things she'd said had caused concerns amongst a few of them too, about how willing she'd been to lose her own life.
But he knows better than the other two boys that she'd made a good, caring decision. Especially knowing the final state that building had been left in.
The text is short, simple, but shows he's there to check in on her. ]
[Well. Looks like Yu wasn't kidding about the others reaching out to her on their own time. This is probably the most her phone's gone off in a day; t's a little exhausting, but at the same time she can't help but be amused.]
People keep talking to me today. I'm finally popular.
'Noting you could give,' is what she almost replies with, but that's overdramatic and kind of petty. All in all she's... sort of okay. She thought that maybe dying and coming back would be more traumatic (not that it wasn't, but she'd woken up warm and safe and all in all it hadn't been nearly as bad as she thought it'd be). She also thought dying might curb suicidal inclinations or her obsession with it, but...
Well. She'd made Lee a promise once before to not die anytime soon (permanently, anyway, because she's not sure temporarily dying like this really counted) and it wasn't like she sought death out freely, but if she hadn't made that promise, where would she be headed now?
She's been staring at text for a good five minutes now, debating how to respond, running it over in her head. Neji had died. She'd seen that, experienced it, and there's a dull throb to her midsection that reminds her painfully of that.]
I don't know. [She'll be honest, for now. She looks at the books that she'd woken up to find in her kitchen, tapping her fingers against the cover of Ouse's journal.
I can see you as well.
You are fixated with death. You are afraid of being alone.
I shall embrace you.
Come to me.
Ugh. She drops her head back against the couch.]
Were you spirited away too? Lee mentioned you went missing.
[Hello to you too, Neji. She answers with a vaguely amused look and doesn't look too worse for wear, despite some bruises.]
Worried? [But she nods] Yeah, I'm fine. Lee got me out once everything started messing up, and I kept myself alive since.
Things just keep getting worse and worse, huh... What's happening with this city? [It's a rhetorical question, of course, but Yuri crosses her arms over her chest and frowns, looking thoughtful]
