☄ First Impressions

♚ VISUAL: She looks sad like ALL THE TIME. This is a canon fact, she's meant to look like someone about to cry and looking between life and death. To quote the directors: I thought of shrine maidens as an intermediary between life and death, so Yuuri had to be someone who was drifting in the rift between life and death - between being alive and dead - and if she took a single step she would have to go one way or the other. We were particularly careful to give her a look in her eyes that made you feel how in the middle she is. Eyes that look like she could go somewhere far away; eyes that look as though she could be called to by death at any moment. Grief-stricken eyes at the reality of eventually dying alone.

I also wanted Yuuri's gaze to look as though she's a moment away from crying. I thought the gaze would be properly persuasive of the contradiction that whilst captivated by death she tries to save people; the contradiction that she is introverted but active.

Her most noticeable features are her eyes and long legs.

She's about 5'3'' and very light, weight-wise.

FUN FACTS her name written out is 不来方夕莉. "Yuri/Yuuri" is pretty standard/normal it just means "Evening jasmine." Her last name, Kozukata, however has a peculiar reading paired with the peculiar kanji meaning something along the lines of "person who doesn't come/isn't coming" or "does not return."
♚ FASHION: So her regular outfit pretty straight forward. A flowy shirt, hotpants, a...leg.. belt?? (why) Boots. Upon closer examination of the concept art of what it looks like wet and APPARENTLY Yuri wears less than i originally thought. That is, she wears like a black bikini top/bra and the shirt is more like an elaborate coverup top. Why. I will never be over this.

On a normal day she tends to dress more for comfort than strictly style. Short-shorts and tank tops (crop tops possible too when it's really warm out). Despite appearances, she doesn't really mind showing off skin or anything, so she tends to dress lightly.

♚ DEMEANOUR: Generally she carries herself... carefully? She's very aware of her distance from other people and is careful to keep it there--she doesn't like touching people if she can help it (with a few exceptions), so she's always adjusting her stance and subtly shifting her weight and all so that she's keeping an equal distance from people to hopefully put off a chance collision. She clasps her hands behind her back a lot or has one arm crossed over her front holding onto her other arm, and is always watching and studying everything around her.

Generally her stance and body language screams 'uncomfortable' or 'do not approach.'
♚ AURAL: Speaks very evenly and carefully. It's not to say there's no emotion in her voice, but it's pretty muted. Her English VA is the narrator here. And her Japanese VA in this cutscene here.
♚ OLFACTORY: Yuri likes to soak in the baths, but doesn't care much about mixing and matching scents. She probably smells like jasmine when she sticks to anything, to go along with the kanji of her first name. It's like a dumb little in-joke for her
♚ MENTAL INFORMATION: Yuri can't shield her mind from anyone trying to read it, but she will probably be aware of it if they're not careful. Her own abilities fall in line with mind/emotion reading so she can pick up on when it's being used towards her. If your character is going to be using it on her, just let me know so I can provide more details, but generally her thoughts are a little more sarcastic than what she ends up voicing, or she's just exasperated and tired. That's going to be the biggest thing anyone picks up from her right off the bat-- she's tired and straddling that line between if she's going to live or die. There's also a general feeling 'emptiness' from her.

Hisoka, one of the other characters capable of more-or-less reading minds, wrote this about using it on her: "I don't know why she went missing, though. When I touch her, I see nothing.

Maybe there was no reason. And that worries me, like peering through darkness."
♚ MAGICAL INFORMATION: Yuri has a high amount of spiritual power, but no means of which is control or hide it, so it'll be easy to pick up on if your character can do so. Color-wise her energy would probably either be a dark orange (like a sunset!) or black.
